Workshops

If you’re looking for creative, fun and insightful workshops focused on the writing process, social justice and spirituality, Jay has you covered.

Here are a few workshop options:

Worlds We Can Build: A Collective Fiction Workshop for Real-World Change: A unique, interactive workshop rooted in visionary storytelling and collective imagination.

To start us off, Jay will offer a brief reading from his latest work, Sentient Being, as an example of collective world building, then shift into a collaborative worldbuilding session where participants co-create fictional futures that reflect the values, systems, and communities we long for.

Together, we’ll explore how speculative storytelling can move beyond the page—becoming a tool for justice, healing, and real-world transformation.

Writing for Change: Weaving Social Justice into Fiction with Care and Impact: Fiction has the power to shape perspectives, build empathy, and inspire action—but how do we incorporate real-world issues into our stories in a way that is respectful, inclusive, and compelling? In this workshop, we’ll explore strategies for weaving current events and social justice themes into fiction without feeling preachy or forced. We’ll discuss the importance of research, authentic representation, and nuanced storytelling to create characters and narratives that foster empathy and reflection in readers. Through guided exercises and discussion, authors will learn how to craft stories that resonate, challenge assumptions, and inspire change while staying true to their creative vision.

Rest as Resistance: Self-Care & Creative Renewal for Activists: Activism asks a lot of us—our energy, our emotions, our time. Without intentional care, the work can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and disconnection from our original purpose. In this restorative workshop, we’ll explore self-care not as a luxury, but as a necessary, radical act of sustainability.

Drawing on my experience as a social worker and longtime activist, I’ll guide participants through healing-centered practices designed to nurture your body, mind, and spirit—whether you’re new to movement work or deeply embedded in it. Together, we’ll pause, reflect on where we are in our justice journeys, and engage in writing prompts that help us process emotion, reconnect with our values, and explore creativity as a tool for resilience.

This is a space for rest, reflection, and renewal—because the revolution needs you whole.

Other workshops include, but are not limited to:

  • Creative Writing Processes
  • Navigating Self-Publishing
  • Work/Life Balance
  • Spirituality and the Tao

Jay is also interested in collaborating. If you’ve got an interesting workshop idea, feel free to reach out!
